Dear CV Friend,
A priest once said:
“Christ on the cross is the king of the new people.”
A king — on a cross?
It’s certainly not the first image that comes to mind when you think of a ‘king’ or a ‘political’ leader. The image is mystifying and humbling.
As we prepare to enter into these holiest of days, we at CV are reflecting on this kingship of Christ — won for us in the most extraordinary act of love ever conceived. God became one of us, died for us, and in doing so made all things new again.
As a political organization, we are sometimes consumed by politics, elections, legislation and law. We fight each day for victories — at the ballot box, in Congress, in the courts, and in the hearts and minds of citizens.
But victory for what? To impose our religion? To shame our opponents? To make war on women?
Not even close.
The truth is we fight each day because we want to spread this victory of love, won for every person on the earth. We fight because we want every person to be welcomed into life, to be protected, loved, and to flourish so that they too can delight with us, and spread the good news of this victory.
Christ gave his life for you and each of us.
That we might live forever in joy with Him. Forever!
That’s a promise no earthly king or politician can deliver.
Wishing you and your families a blessed and prayer-filled Triduum,
– Brian, Josh, Kara, Thomas, Shane, Pat, Elizabeth and your CV Team
